The Phonm Pehn Court of Appeals upheld the maximum sentence for French citizen David Makhout for indecent acts committed against the minor. He must complete the 18 month sentence, without possibility of an early release. As well as pay 2 million riel (about $ 500) to the victim for compensation.

Last Friday the appeals trial took place on the ruling issued by the Sihanoukville Provincial Court in September 2008. The Court condemned D. Makhout to 18 months in prison, 10 of which were suspended, in addition to paying $500 in victim compensation.
D. Makhout, 46 years old, was arrested in April 2008 at his home in Sihanoukville, where he lived with the 8-year-old victim, who he legally adopted with the approval of the mother, and had been sexually abusing.
